Finished Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom. It's a brilliant book so far, both as sci-fi and just as a drama. The characters are elegantly rendered, the technology explained beautifully by natural fluid dialogue. Everything fits. I hope it wins the Nebula award, that'd be amazing. It definitely wins my wuffie.
While I was coding this layout and hashing out the graphics issues, I felt like I was building a cathedral that no one would see. I've been thinking about that feeling, the sense that you're slowly pulling a statue out of forgotten cliffs. And you leave it there, in the wilderness hoping someone else will find it, and wonder who wandered here. You leave it there because that's where it belongs, a face in the rocks. A feminine form struggling out of granite and vines.
